FIREREADER GUIDE

Bring your books.
Return to your place.

How do I add books?

Tap “Import books” in the library, then use your device’s file picker to choose EPUB, PDF, text or other supported document files. The My Files screen lets you select multiple files or folders. Importing creates a copy and does not move the original.

Where are my reading position and notes?

Your position is saved in the library database on your device. Open the table of contents in the reader to find bookmarks and notes. Before uninstalling the app, create a backup in Settings and keep it in a separate location.

Does the security lock encrypt my files?

No. PIN and biometric authentication lock access to the app’s screens. Books and backups are not encrypted. You need to manage access to the iOS file-sharing folder and exported backups yourself. Forgetting your PIN does not automatically delete your existing library.

I cannot hear read-aloud.

Check that a voice for the language is installed on your device and that media volume is on. Shake controls work while you are using the app screen. The same speed setting can sound different between speech engines.

Does adding a PDF signature change the original?

Handwriting and handwritten signatures are exported to a new PDF copy. These are not certificate-based digital signatures, and their legal effect is not guaranteed. Check the exported document yourself before submitting it.

When do cloud features upload data?

You connect WebDAV, Dropbox, Google Drive (where available in your version) or your own FTPS storage and manually transfer full backups. Reading-position sync is enabled separately and asks whether to move when it finds a newer position. Wi-Fi only is the default. Library metadata, bookmark and note merging, and PDF handwriting and form sync each require separate consent, followed by a preview before you apply changes. You choose how to resolve conflicting values or keep them as alternative versions. Changing the connection requires consent again. Disconnecting does not delete existing files on the server. Weekly local backups and weekly cloud uploads are separate and off by default. Cloud uploads require separate consent and run while FireReader is open in the foreground on Wi-Fi, using the saved WebDAV, Dropbox or supported Google Drive connection. The first eligible backup uploads immediately; later uploads wait seven days after the last confirmed success. A remote conflict pauses automatic replacement so you can review and restore the remote copy before enabling uploads again. Changing the connection revokes this consent. OS-scheduled backups remain local-only, and FTPS uploads remain manual. Backups are not encrypted; stopping uploads does not delete copies already received by the provider. Release verification with actual provider accounts and OS-scheduled execution is still in progress.

Which books can I open?

You can open EPUB, PDF, text, FB2, HTML, MHT/MHTML, CHM, DOCX, ODT, RTF, CBZ and ZIP image books, and some classic MOBI and PalmDOC files. CHM support reads text, embedded images and the table of contents; it does not reproduce the original help file’s executable features or every style. Support has been implemented for unencrypted classic MOBI, PalmDOC, HUFF/CDIC and reflowable KF8/AZW3 documents. Fixed layouts, complex author formatting and some dictionary variants have limitations. A restricted subset of static SVG images is displayed; executable code and external image requests are not processed. The RAR/CBR/7z engines have been verified on both platforms, but the latest physical-device tests of the normal library flow are still in progress. DjVu is not available yet. DRM-protected files are not supported. Unsupported or damaged files are not imported, and your existing library is preserved.

How do I translate selected text?

Select text in the reader, then tap Translate. Save your own existing Google Cloud Translation or DeepL API key and choose a target language. Check the displayed source text and destination address, then consent to this request before sending it. Up to 5,000 characters are supported, subject to your provider account’s usage limits and charges. Saving a key alone does not contact the provider. Retrying a failed request requires consent again. Actual provider account connections have not yet passed release verification. Do not send keys or book text to development support.

Still having trouble?

Contact [email protected] with the app version, device OS and the action that caused the problem. Do not send private book text, passwords or cloud tokens.

Release-version guidance will be finalized before store submission.
